Endnotes

i. This category has been through the most frequent changes. We intend for "Educational Setting" to capture the type of environment in which the majority of learning activities take place.

ii. Accreditation Status is based on the formal meaning of accreditation. So far, there are three different types of accreditation: accredited (an accredited agency such as a public school is awarding the badges), contextually accredited (a project that is awarding badges within the context and constraints of an accredited institution), and non-accredited. If a project is "non-accredited" it does not mean that the badges issued in the project are not valid but that they are not awarded by an accredited institution. We have added a four category, other, to capture the projects such as Badges for Vets which do not fall into any of the categories

iii. The issuer is the authoritity that is approving the experience or artifacts meet the requirements of the given badge.

iv. Earner Audience is the new way we are characterizing the group of learners the badges and curriculum are designed for. Grade. It is important to note that many badging projects are within the context of a larger program or curriculum so the badges might be extended to other learners and age groups in the future.

v. Not all projects have badges which are aligned to a set of pre-existing standards or indicators. Of those that do the standards range from the national Common Core State Standards to those which are program specific such as Global Kids' Outcomes and Indicators which are used in the design of their programs and now badges.

vi. Consumer Audience refers to individuals or groups that will be looking at the information communicated in badges to inform their decisions. This ranges from peers viewing badges to determine how well that learner may work in groups to employeers trying to select the most qualified applicant. This category highlights the most direct audience as identified by the individual intitatives and the DPD team.
